Transparent vegan product checking
VeganCue is a beta product checker built around one principle: do not just display a yes/no answer — show what evidence produced the answer and say when the data is uncertain.
How a barcode verdict is formed
The app first checks for a reviewed correction in its own database, then a recent product cache, then the appropriate Open Food Facts family database. The available label and ingredient analysis is combined with conservative local rules. Clear animal-derived ingredients return Not vegan; genuinely source-dependent ingredients return Needs checking rather than being guessed.
Food first, but not food only
The architecture can identify food, beauty/personal-care, household/general and pet-food product records. For beauty and household products, vegan formulation and cruelty-free/animal-testing status remain separate questions.
