Privacy in VeganCue

VeganCue does not require an account. The beta is designed to collect as little information as practical while still allowing product corrections, result reports and useful anonymous scan statistics.

Barcode scans

When you check a barcode, the beta stores an event containing the product barcode, whether it was found, the returned verdict, product type, lookup source and time. It does not attach your name, email address, precise location or a device identifier to that scan event.

History and favourites

Your recent scan history, favourites and short-lived repeated-scan cache are stored locally in your browser on that device. Clearing site data removes them.

Ingredient photos

The selected image is processed in your browser by the OCR component and is not uploaded to the VeganCue Worker or D1 database. The recognised ingredient text is editable. When you tap Analyse ingredients, that text is sent to the app endpoint to generate a rule-based verdict and is not intentionally persisted by that endpoint.

Corrections, reports and feedback

If you choose to submit a product, flag a result or send beta feedback, the information you type is stored in Cloudflare D1 so it can be reviewed. Do not include personal information unless you are comfortable with it being stored as part of that submission.

External services

The beta uses Cloudflare for hosting and database storage, the Open Food Facts family of public databases for product information, and browser-delivered JavaScript libraries for barcode scanning and OCR. Product barcodes are used to request the relevant public product record.

What is not claimed

This remains a beta privacy notice rather than the final public-release privacy policy. It will be expanded before app-store or broad public distribution, including operator/contact details and defined retention periods.
